Sentient runs most of its AI on your own Mac, which keeps our costs low. Our business model is enterprise: companies pay for work integrations and support, while you get a free, open-source personal assistant.

Your data isn’t how we make money. If you choose to connect a paid AI account or provider, their charges are separate from Sentient.

No. Sentient doesn’t continuously record your screen. It learns from the sources you enable, like your notes, messages, and files.

When you ask Sidekick to do something or use Double Tap, Sentient can capture screenshots to understand what’s on screen. Sidekick also uses screenshots while carrying out your task.

Sentient’s on-device model reads your local sources on your Mac, and your knowledge base stays there.

If you choose a cloud AI, it receives context for the feature you’re using. That can include summaries, knowledge, or screenshots during computer use. Double Tap’s built-in cloud service also processes your screen and knowledge to draft a reply; you can choose a local model instead.

You choose your AI provider, and sharing your knowledge with other AI apps is optional.

Yes. You choose which supported sources Sentient analyzes, and you can change those choices in Settings.

You can also inspect and edit what it has learned. During setup, Sentient saves selected examples of your writing to help replies sound like you; those are yours to inspect and edit too.

All of it. Open Sentient’s Knowledge window to read, correct, or remove what it has learned about you.

Underneath, it’s ordinary text files in a folder on your Mac. You can open them yourself, keep a copy, or use them with other tools. If you’ve enabled cloud sharing, changes carry over when it syncs.

Yes, including Double Tap. With enough RAM, you can use a compatible local model for the more demanding AI work too, instead of connecting your ChatGPT or Claude account.

Once you’ve downloaded the models and selected them in Settings, the AI work can happen entirely on your Mac. Tasks like browsing websites or sending email still need an internet connection. The amount of RAM you’ll need depends on the model you choose.

Yes. Sidekick can see what’s on screen, click buttons, type, and move between your apps and browser to carry out a task. That’s what we mean by computer use.

Ask it to fill out an application, organize receipts, or turn notes into tasks. It brings your context into the apps you already use, so you don’t have to explain everything from scratch.

Sentient can prepare suggestions overnight, but it waits for your approval before acting on them. Double Tap writes a draft for you to review and send.

When you hand a task to Sidekick, you’re asking it to take the steps needed to complete that task. It can then click, type, and work across your apps on your behalf.

macOS protects the local databases used by apps like Apple Notes, Messages, and WhatsApp. Full Disk Access lets Sentient read those sources on your Mac so it can understand your context.

That permission doesn’t itself upload anything. What’s shared with an AI provider depends on the features and provider you choose.

Every night at 3 AM, as long as Sentient is open in your menu bar and your Mac is plugged in. It reads what’s new, updates your knowledge, and prepares suggestions for the morning.

Your Mac can be asleep with its lid closed: Sentient wakes it quietly for the run, then lets it go back to sleep.

An Apple silicon Mac, M1 or newer, running macOS 15.4 or later. The built-in on-device model works with 8 GB of RAM.

Running an additional, larger local model may require more memory. Windows isn’t available yet, but you can join the waitlist.
